Coast Guard searching for fisherman

NEW ORLEANS – The Coast Guard is searching for a fisherman who may be lost on the Intracoastal Waterway between Abbeville, Louisiana, and Biloxi, Mississippi, Monday.

Thanh Tran was last seen on the 48-foot fishing vessel, Tina H, described as white with blue details, in Abbeville, Tuesday. The last contact from Tran was via cell phone, Thursday.

Coast Guard HC-144 Ocean Sentry airplane crews from Aviation Training Center Mobile were directed to search for Tran and the Tina H.

“As a result of his communications with his family members, the Coast Guard has a general area to focus its search efforts,” said Lt. Nicholas Greaver, command duty officer for Coast Guard District Eight. “This situation highlights the importance of filing a float plan before getting underway, which would help to narrow down the search area required to locate a missing boater.”
