Coast Guard responds to barge collision near Hahnville

NEW ORLEANS – The Coast Guard is responding to a barge collision between two towing vessels near mile marker 129 on the Mississippi River near Hahnville, Louisiana. 

The Mississippi River has been closed from mile marker 126 to mile marker 131.  

The Coast Guard is working with state & local agencies and the responsible party to recover one capsized barge carrying caustic soda in an effort to reopen waterways. 

There have been no reports of caustic soda entering the water.

There were no reported injuries.

The cause of the incident is under investigation.
