Philadelphia Coast Guard, partner agencies to hold Labor Day safety event

WHO: The Coast Guard, New Jersey State Police, Pennsylvania Department of Transportation, Philadelphia Police Department, Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission and Mothers Against Drunk Driving.

WHAT: Agencies will speak about Labor Day Weekend safety issues, covering topics such as safe boating, boating under the influence, safety while driving vehicles and driving under the influence. Coast Guard members will set off signaling devices, such as pencil flares and smoke flares.

WHERE: Coast Guard Sector Delaware Bay: 1 Washington Ave. Philadelphia, PA., 19147.

WHEN: 11 a.m., Thursday, Sept. 1, 2016.

PHILADELPHIA – The Coast Guard, New Jersey State Police, Pennsylvania Department of Transportation, Philadelphia Police Department and partner agencies will hold a safety event at Coast Guard Sector Delaware Bay at 11 a.m., Thursday.

Representatives from the different agencies will discuss safety issues for both boating and driving throughout Labor Day Weekend.

Members of the Coast Guard will demonstrate signaling devices, such as smoke flares and pencil flares, which boaters can use to signal rescuers in the event of an emergency.
