ATLANTIC CITY, N.J. — The Coast Guard will host a ribbon cutting ceremony for Coast Guard Station Atlantic City's new boat maintenance facility and a ceremony to dedicate the station command building to Capt. Joseph Mazzotta, at 10 a.m. Thursday.

The new facility will allow for the crew to conduct maintenance, repairs and training in a safe, temperature controlled environment. 

Rear Adm. Meredith Austin, commander of the Fifth Coast Guard District, will officiate the ribbon cutting ceremony.

"We are excited to officially open our new boat maintenance facility on Thursday which is an investment in the future of our station and community," said Lt. Cmdr. Noel Johnson, commanding officer of Station Atlantic City. "The new facility will greatly enhance our ability to train and conduct routine maintenance and repairs on our assets. We are also taking the opportunity during the ceremony to dedicate our historic command building in honor of Retired Captain Joseph Mazzotta."

Mazzotta served as officer in charge of three stations along the Jersey Shore including South Brigantine, Cape May Point and Atlantic City. He earned his appointment as a Warrant Officer in 1935 followed by commissioning as an officer in 1938. From there he was commanding officer of seven more units finishing his career as the Captain of the Port and commanding officer of Group New York. Mazzotta retired in 1968 after more than 41 years of active service in the United States Coast Guard.
