BOSTON — A boat capsized near the mouth of the Merrimack River Monday sending two people into the water.A crewman aboard the good Samaritan vessel Lady Suzanne used a VHF radio to hail Coast Guard watchstanders at about 6:45 p.m. and report seeing the 31-foot Laurie Ann capsized near the north jetty at the mouth of the Merrimack River. They also reported seeing three possible people in the water.A 47-foot motor life boat crew from Coast Guard Station Merrimack River and a helicopter crew from Coast Guard Air Station Cape Cod deployed to search for possible persons in the water.A short time later, the crew aboard Lady Suzanne, who were still on scene to help search for the people, located two people in the water and pulled them aboard their boat.One person was reported to be wearing a life jacket and be in fair condition; the other was not wearing a life jacket and experiencing symptoms of shock, and had an injury to his face. The people pulled from the water confirmed there was not a third person still in the water.After rendezvousing with Lady Suzanne, the Coast Guard MLB crew transferred the two people aboard their boat where the crew rendered first aid to the man’s face. The MLB crew took the two people to shore where emergency service personnel were awaiting their arrival.
"The Coast Guard thanks the Lady Suzanne crew for all their assistance tonight in locating and saving the two people from the water," said Petty Officer 1st Class Robert Cook, a watchstander in Coast Guard Sector Boston’s command center. The cause of Laurie Ann’s capsize is under investigation.
