COAST GUARD TO OVERSEE BARGE REMOVAL

September 11, 2016

New Orleans – The Coast Guard is overseeing salvage operations of Barge 20851 on the Mississippi River at mile marker 491, Monday.

Kirby Inland Marine will transfer the anhydrous ammonia from Barge 20851, if necessary, to ensure the vessel can be safely refloated. River lock 14 and lock 15 will be closed to traffic during operations.

The public is encouraged to stay clear of mile marker 491.  If ammonia is smelled, immediately go indoors, turn off the air-conditioning, and call 911.
